Dr. Jahmal Mosley

Director of Academics

Dr. Jahmal Mosley brings over two decades of educational leadership experience across all three levels of education. His career began as a special education teacher, where he quickly made an impact by helping students with diverse learning needs. Over the years, he has held various roles, including central office administrator and director of academics, where he oversaw comprehensive educational programs. He holds certification as a Special Education Administrator, providing him with the expertise to design and assess Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students facing a range of challenges, such as speech, language, intellectual, hearing, emotional, and physical impairments.

Dr. Mosley earned his Doctorate in Education from the University of Massachusetts, an institution renowned for its forward-thinking academic programs. His dissertation, titled Perceptions of Principal Attributes in an Era of Accountability, was not only published in the Journal of School Leadership but also selected for presentation at the prestigious American Educational Research Association Conference. This recognition highlights his commitment to advancing the field of education, particularly in terms of leadership and accountability. His research underscores his philosophy that robust and equitable leadership is essential for fostering an environment where every student can succeed, regardless of their background or learning challenges.

A champion of educational equity, Dr. Jahmal is deeply committed to creating systems that allow every student to reach their full potential. Dr. Mosley's academic journey began with his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1997, where he concentrated on African-American History and Psychology. This dual focus gave him a unique perspective on how societal and psychological factors impact student learning and motivation. His early education laid the groundwork for a career dedicated to understanding and addressing the diverse needs of students. Following this, in 1998, he pursued a Master's Degree in Education from Wheelock College, with a focus on Special Needs Education for elementary and middle school students, further honing his ability to address the specific educational challenges faced by students with disabilities.

Dr. Jahmal Mosley continued to build on his expertise by studying at Harvard University, where he examined the systemic and academic competencies of educational systems around the world. This global perspective deepened when he traveled to China to study the country's educational reforms and government investments in schooling. His research there uncovered valuable insights into how large-scale educational reforms can dramatically improve student achievement, as measured through standardized assessments. This international experience has informed his approach to education reform in the United States, particularly his advocacy for continuous improvement in school systems.

Dr. Jahmal holds numerous advanced certifications, demonstrating his versatility and expertise in educational leadership. He is certified as a Principal/Assistant Principal for PreK-12, and his Special Education Administrator certification spans all levels of schooling. These qualifications allow him to lead with a comprehensive understanding of both general and special education systems. In addition, he holds certifications as Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, further proving his readiness to take on leadership roles at any level of school administration.

Dr. Mosley is particularly passionate about special education, as demonstrated by his extensive accomplishments in the field. As a licensed Special Education Director, he has dedicated much of his career to advocating for students who face unique learning barriers. His involvement in the NextGen Project, which focuses on utilizing emerging technologies to help students overcome classroom skill deficiencies, is a testament to his forward-thinking approach. By leveraging technology, he works to create more personalized learning experiences that can remove barriers to academic success for special education students.

Throughout his career, Dr. Jahmal has had the opportunity to mentor and advise aspiring exceptional education leaders. He has worked closely with Advisory Board directors and interns in school districts and government agencies, providing them with the insights and tools necessary to lead in the ever-evolving field of special education. His expertise is often sought after for conference presentations, where he shares evidence-based strategies on how next-generation learning methods can break down barriers to both learning and employment for students with special needs. This mentorship and leadership are central to his enduring legacy in education.
